Jay Gatsby in Our World
This is a look into what Jay Gatsby’s life would look like if he was born in the 21st century:
Jay Gatsby would undoubtedly be a figure who is constantly rumored about in the 21st century.
“Isn’t Jay Gatsby the man who’s friends with that mob boss?”
“He’s the guy that throws those parties on the roof of the Empire State Building!”
“His Instagram posts are insane!”
“Didn’t he have Beyoncé and Obama at his party?”
His background is slightly different. Instead of gaining his wealth from “bootlegging”, he has made millions by money laundering.
His parties host the most famous guests of the modern world. Famous politicians, athletes, actors, musicians, and inventors are seen attending his parties every weekend. The most notable include the Rock, Barack Obama, Rihanna, Drake, Elon Musk, and Michael Jordan. He hires the most expensive DJs and buys them the loudest speakers so the entire area within 10 miles of him can hear the ground-shaking bass of the music.
And, of course, he owns the most lavish and luxurious things. In his 10-car garage, he has Lamborghinis, BMWs, Mercedes, and Porsches. His Teslas are his cheapest cars and the ones he likes to crash. In his closet, which is the size of an average family’s living room, he has thousands of designer pieces. He doesn’t even know 70% of them exist.
His social media is filled with images and videos of his crazy parties, his priceless views from his multiple houses, and the clothing pieces he is most proud of. But one thing that’s missing in every social media account of his is himself. This contributes to the mystery the public associates with him, but everyone still knows what he looks like through paparazzi pictures. The paparazzi has become widely interested in him and photographing which car and outfit he struts each day.
ReplyDeleteI liked the modern take on Jay Gatsby's life in the 21st century and how you incorporated his character into our world of social media and celebrity culture. The transformation of his wealth source from "bootlegging" to money laundering was also cool.
